U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class David Ampofo, information systems specialist forward deployed to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, was born in Accra, Ghana, and currently lives in Lawrenceville, Ga. Ampofo has spent more than 10 years in the Navy Reserve balancing the citizen-sailor lifestyle. "Look at me," Ampofo said. "I'm an African AND an American; and I am equally proud of both!" Camp Lemonnier hosts the Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, under the command of U.S. Africa Command, conducts civil and non-combatant military operations in East Africa aimed to enhance partner-nation capacity, promote regional stability and dissuade potential local conflict.
