Afghan workers of the Sarkani District recently cleaned out a portion of a canal, several kilometers long in Afghanistan's Kunar province, as part of a cash-for-work project, which was completed over a two-week period in November. The project will enable the irrigation of 2,000 jeribs (about a thousand acres) of farmland in the district at a cost of just more than 155,000 afghani (approximately $3,100). Members of the Iowa National Guard's 734th Agribusiness Development Team performed a quality assurance, quality control inspection on the canal clean-out project Nov. 22.
