Pvt. Jamal Funchess of Elloree, S.C., 1-178th Field Artillery Battalion, South Carolina Army National Guard, was promoted to Private First Class, July 27, by 1st Sgt. Jeffrey Pace at a ceremony at Camp Phoenix. Funchess is currently serving a one year tour in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. This is his second promotion in Afghanistan this year.
