New York native Cpl. Kenneth Vandame participated in the commissioning of USS New York, the Navy's newest landing platform dock at Pier 88 in Manhattan, Nov. 7. With 7.5 tons of steel recovered from the World Trade Center, the ship holds particular meaning for Vandame, who lost two friends and a distant cousin Sept. 11, 2001.
