Tammy Duckworth, the assistant secretary of public and intergovernmental affairs for the Department of Veterans Affairs, speaks at the 2009 National Guard Bureau, Public Affairs Training Workshop in Landsdowne, Va., Oct. 27. Duckworth, a major in the Illinois Army National Guard who was wounded in Iraq in 2004 when the UH-60 Blackhawk she was piloting was shot down, addressed many of the recent changes made at the VA to include a streamlined process for service members to receive care, additional clinics, advancements in care for women, and electronic medical records designed to follow the servicemember throughout his or her career.
