Coast Guard aviation survival technicians conduct emergency hypothermia training at Air Station Kodiak, Alaska
Are you familiar with the (three) stages of hypothermia and how to treat them?
It’s October in Alaska and the Coast Guard aviation survival technicians at Air Station Kodiak are gearing up for winter with emergency medical training in hypothermia, lead by Petty Officer 2nd Class Jake Warner, with an assist by Petty Officer 3rd Class Frank Vilardi. Hypothermia symptoms can appear even in warmer climates when hikers or mariners face exposure to wind, water or drops in air temperature; and it’s important to know the proper treatment to deploy depending on the patient’s condition.
