Ensign Dave King, the bos’n assigned to the amphibious dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41), oversees a stern gate marriage on-load into the well deck of Whidbey Island by an improved navy lighterage system (INLS) causeway ferry assigned to Amphibious Construction Battalion (PHIBCB) 2, during the annual loading exercise. Expeditionary forces from Expeditionary Strike Group 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, and Navy Expeditionary Combat Command conduct the exercise to reinforce rapid response skills used for defense support of civil authorities and foreign humanitarian aid and disaster response following natural or man-made disasters.
