Lt. Col. David Sentell (center right), commander of 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, awards Spc. Robert Shelton (right) the Purple Heart, June 10, 2014, on Fort Stewart, Ga. Shelton sustained injuries from shrapnel after an enemy grenade exploded while his unit was on a counter indirect fire patrol in Logar province, Afghanistan, during the unit’s recent combat tour in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Master Sgt. Christopher Williams (left of Shelton) also received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained after an improvised explosive device attack on his dismounted patrol, early October, in Logar province. Left of Sentell: Command Sgt. Maj. Craig Copridge, senior enlisted adviser for the Mustang Battalion, Col. Thomas Gukeisen, and Command Sgt. Maj.
