With over 50 years of service on Misawa Air Base, the 708th Military Intelligence Detachment will be deactivating their unit on Oct. 28, 2014. The unit provided cryptological support to the base and has augmented operations in both Afghanistan and Iraq, in addition to assisting during 2011s Operation Tomodachi during which a massive tsunami and 9.0 magnitude earthquake stuck the country of Japan.
