The 1,000-foot motor vessel Maersk Kure located and captured an image of the capsized hull of what is presumed to be the 39-foot sailing vessel Cheeki Rafiki, May 17, 2014. The capsized vessel was located 1,000 miles east of Cape Cod, Mass., within the search area. Due to the ship's massive structure, 15-foot sea conditions, and amplifying weather, they were unable to retrieve the sailing vessel. They did not identify any other debris or signs of the missing crew. Coast Guard authorities ultimately suspended search efforts to find the missing crew at 5:00 a.m. on May 18, 2014.
