Capt. Sutliff (left), 1st Lt. Nelson, Staff Sgt. Wright and Tech. Sgt. Fifield, 54th Helicopter squadron crew members stand near their UH1 helicopter after their successful search and rescue early this morning. At around midnight we received a phone call from the AFRCC requesting a hoist equiped aircraft. In Eastern Montana (Savage) an ice flow had caused the river to overrun its banks and trapped two people in the bed of their truck. Rescue workers were on the scene but unable to get to the stranded people due to the large chunks of ice in the water. Of greater concern was another ice flow further upstream threatening to let go. Sutliff and crew launched just after 0130 enroute and by 0330 had hoisted both individuals from the bed of the truck and carried them to safety.
