North Carolina Air Guard Col. Charles D. Davis III assumed command of the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) national military mission over the weekend in Charlotte, N.C. Davis, who also commands the Operations Group for the N.C. Air Guard’s 145th Airlift Wing in Charlotte will be responsible for leading three Air National Guard and one U.S. Air Force Reserve Command units that will fly military C-130 aircraft and use them as aerial tankers to extinguish forest fires in support of the U.S. Forest Service.
