CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - In this photo by the U.S. Coast Guard, Capt. Bob Paulison, Corpus Christi Sector Commander, offers a summary of Coast Guard operations at the 2009 Corpus Christi Inner Harbor Safe Harbor Experiment, Friday, May 15, 2009.

The purpose of the experiment was to test the readiness of the port through the placement of inert mine-like shapes on the bed of the port. Once the shapes were placed, the Navy utilized unmanned underwater vehicles to locate the placed shapes.

The Safe Harbor Experiment was a joint effort between the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command, Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi and the Port of Corpus Christi.
