Hawaii National Guard Joint Force Headquarters activated Army and Air National Guardsmen in support of the Hawaii County Civil Defense authorities in response to the Puna Lava flow. In addition to setting up and operating a command and control center, the Guardsman patrolled neighborhoods and monitored blocked roads as the lava advanced.
