The Army's Network Integration Evaluation, NIE 12.2, is the third in a series of semi-annual, Soldier-driven evaluations designed to further integrate, mature and rapidly progress the Army's tactical network. NIE 12.2, taking place May-June 2012 at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., will involve nearly 3,800 Soldiers and 1,000 vehicles from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division (2/1 AD). NIE 12.2 is the most significant exercise in this series and will validate the connectivity, architecture and components of Capability Set 13 - the Army's first integrated group of networked technologies to be fielded to Army Brigade Combat Teams beginning in Fall 2012, prior to their deployment to Afghanistan in 2013. NIE 12.2 marks the Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) for the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) Increment 2, the Army's on the move satellite-based network connectivity, and the Joint Tactical Radio System Handheld, Manpack, and Small Form F it (JTRS HMS) system.
