Predeployment training brings aircraft, ground element togetherPilots and crews with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 161 “Greyhawks” transported more than 40 Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 15 to Bryant Field Airport in Bridgeport, Calif., Aug. 20. The squadron supported the battalion’s movement from Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., to the airport for a mountain training exercise. The flight doubled as a familiarization flight for both parties as they are slated to work together during their upcoming deployment with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In Japan, the flowering cherry blossom tree, or "sakura," is a prized flowering plant. The beauty of the cherry blossom is a potent symbol equated with the evanescence of human life and epitomizes the transformation of Japanese culture throughout the ages, according to the National Park Service. For Lt. Col. Eric Terashima, the assistant chief of staff for operations and future operations with Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve, the cherry blossom symbolizes his family’s legacy in America – a legacy of endurance, forgiveness and pride.
