A new commander over Coast Guard units in the Houston-Galveston area and captain of the port in those areas relieved his predecessor Friday during a change of command ceremony in Clear Lake.

Sen. Lautenberg honored by Coast Guard cutter crew
In honor of the late New Jersey Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.), the Cutter Mohawk retired a commissioning pennant at sea Monday to laud the Lautenberg’s commissioning of the cutter more than 20 years ago and to thank the senator’s family for their lifetime of support for the Coast Guard.

Unified Command to remove, decontaminate leaking oil containers from BBC Arizona
The Unified Command composed of the Coast Guard, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, City of Valdez, and Gallagher Marine Systems, LLC, finalized plans Sunday to off-load all 28 containers from the BBC Arizona for decontamination shoreside.
Port Valdez stevedores removed the remaining Alaska-bound cargo from the ship over the weekend.
