People report to watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville in Atlantic Beach, Fla., they witnessed the USNS 1st Lt. Harry L. Martin strike the Mathews Bridge in Jacksonville, Fla., Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013. All vessel traffic was prohibited from passing below the bridge or coming within 200 yards from it following the accident until Florida Department of Transportation bridge inspectors determined it was safe for vessel traffic to pass below.
