BAGHDAD, Iraq - Maj. Gen. Claudio Angelelli, the new NATO Training Mission - Iraq deputy commander, began his tour of duty with a visit to the NCO School at the Regional Training Center, June 22, in Taji, Iraq, as one of several visits to military training institutions around Iraq.
Angelelli met with Iraqi Army Col. Abaa, the Infantry NCO School Director, who gave him a tour of the classrooms and training areas. During the meeting, Abaa raised concerns about limited resources and explained his plans to modify the course schedules.
“Currently, our school needs new equipment -- especially simulators for combat action training,” Abba said.
A small staff of Training Educational Doctrine and Advisory Division officers and NCOs train, advise and assist the Iraqi staff and students in delivering and tailoring the course to the needs of the Iraqi military.
Angelelli said he would evaluate the issues and work to strengthen the relationship between the school and NTM-I. He commended the Iraqi armed forces personnel for their tireless support in training professional NCOs.
His visit concluded with a meeting attended by personnel from the Joint Training Center, NTM-I and United States Forces - Iraq NCO School.
NTM-I has been training, mentoring and advising officers in the Iraqi security forces since 2004, assisting the government of Iraq with resuming its important place in the international community and improving security for the Iraqi people.
