FORT DIX, N.J. -- Soldiers from the U.S. Army Reserve's 678th Human Resource Company, 2nd Platoon, patrolled the streets of Army Support Activity, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst's Balad training range searching for insurgents and weapons caches during a training scenario Dec. 15.

The 678th HRC, 2nd Platoon, an Army Reserve unit from Charlotte, N.C., performed Military Operations in Urban Terrain training where they worked with role-players called civilians on the battlefield who assisted with the training.

This unit will soon deploy to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where they will perform a postal operations mission.

This type of training is something that, according to their commander, 1st Lt. Misty Sutton, is different than what they would normally prepare for, but nonetheless very important.

"This is really good training for us. We probably won't do a lot of these things, but you never know if you'll be in that kind of situation, so it's good to get the training, regardless of MOS (Military Occupational Specialty)," said Sutton.

This unit also has approximately one third of its members who have deployed in worldwide conflicts before and has a wide array of soldiers from various MOSs including field artillery, auto repair and the medical field.

"It's great to have a good number of soldiers who have deployed before because it reinforces the leadership and lends more credibility to the younger soldiers and perspective of what it's like," said Sutton.

These soldiers will soon head back home to North Carolina for the winter holidays and return to ASA, JB MDL after the New Year to conclude their deployment preparations, where they will train with an instructor from the Army Postal School in Fort Jackson, S.C.
