MIDDLE EAST - Cmdr. Adam Welter relieved Cmdr. Matthew D. Ovios as commanding officer of USS Ingraham (FFG 61), Dec. 13, in a ceremony held aboard USS Ingraham.

Welter took a moment to praise Orvios for his accomplishments as a good leader and motivator.

"I am both humbled and thrilled to assume command of Ingraham," said Welter. "The pride and professionalism displayed by Ingraham's crew speaks volumes about Commander Ovios."

Ovios reflected on the challenges and benefits of this command during the ceremony, "I am extremely proud to have been associated with this ship and crew," he said. "Over the course of the last two years we have faced many challenges, and each time I've asked this crew to perform, they have, executing each mission as true professionals."

"Ingraham's unofficial motto is 'The Last and Finest,' meaning she is the last and the finest Oliver Hazard Perry Frigate to be built, and I truly believe that," said Ovios.

Ingraham is currently forward deployed to the US Naval Forces Central Command area of operation conducting intensive planning and exercises conducted counter-piracy operations as well as providing humanitarian assistance.

Ingraham conducts MSO in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. These operations help develop security in the maritime environment, which promotes stability and global prosperity.
