    Sailor dies in motorcycle accident

    NAPLES, Italy — A U.S. 6th Fleet Sailor assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 8 based at Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy, died in a motorcycle accident Sunday, Sept. 27, at approximately 5 p.m. local time.

    Petty Officer 1st Class Maurice Lee Quidley Jr., 36, an explosive ordnance disposal technician, died as a result of injuries sustained during the motorcycle accident.

    U.S. Navy and Italian officials are investigating the accident.

    Quidley served in the U.S. Navy for 16 years and reported to EODMU 8 in March 2005. His previous duty assignments include EODMU 2 in Little Creek, Va.; Assault Craft Unit 2 in Norfolk, Va.; USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44), homeported in Little Creek, Va.; USS Clark (FFG 11), homeported in Norfolk, Va.; USS Shiloh (CG 67), homeported in Yokosuka, Japan, along with multiple schools and training commands.

    His personal awards include the Army Commendation Medal with "V" device, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
