KABUL, Afghanistan — Two International Security Assistance Force service members were killed yesterday, Aug. 23, as a result of an improvised explosive device detonation that occurred in southern Afghanistan.

"All of ISAF grieves for the tragic loss of these hard-working service members and our most sincere sympathies go out to their families, friends and comrades," said Brigadier-General Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson.

"Despite these tough losses, we will continue our mission with resolve and concentrate our activities on protecting the Afghan population and removing the insurgent threat from their daily lives."

It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
