KABUL, Afghanistan — The Afghan national army, coalition forces and villagers from Bartow village, Uruzgan province gathered recently to build a bridge over an irrigation ditch to enhance travel through the district.

ANA and coalition forces joined 40 villagers to help build a culvert in an irrigation ditch to facilitate the movement of vehicles through the district. The village elders had pre-arranged the labor force to be present when the joint force arrived. In only three hours the culvert was complete.

After completing the culvert, the villagers were provided humanitarian assistance and hand tools. This method of distributing humanitarian assistance helps stimulate local economy by providing job opportunities that are directly tied to the improvement of their village, district, and country.
