KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan national army troops, advised by coalition forces, killed 35 militants and wounded 13 during combat operations in Deh Chopan district, Zabul province today.
The Afghan-led force was conducting a combat reconnaissance patrol early this morning, when the convoy came under heavy fire from militants using small arms and mortar fire. The combined forces returned fire, and requested air support, killing 35 and wounding 13. The remaining militants retreated, and medical personnel treated the wounded enemy fighters, who were taken into ANA custody.
No ANA, coalition forces or civilian casualties have been reported as a result of this engagement.
"We continue to make great progress supporting the ANA, as they work to establish safe villages and provinces, free from the threat of these enemies of Afghanistan," said Col. Greg Julian, USFOR-A spokesman.
