KABUL, Afghanistan — An Afghan-international patrol found a weapons cache in the Reg-e Khan Neshin district of Helmand province yesterday. The cache contained eight 303mm rounds, seven AK-47's, a rifle, ammunition and an ammunition-filled vest. The cache was seized and will be disposed of at a later time.
In the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand, an ISAF patrol found a weapons cache containing seven 155mm illumination rounds, three 57mm high-explosive rounds, three 82mm high-explosive rounds, 36 kilograms (80 lbs) of ammonium nitrate, 23 kg (51 lbs) of home-made explosives and 45 kg (100 lbs) of shrapnel. An explosive ordnance disposal team destroyed the cache.
Another ISAF patrol in Nad-e Ali discovered four large improvised explosive devices in close proximity to each other yesterday. One IED contained 34 kg (75 lbs) of home-made explosives, the second IED contained five mortar rounds, and two other IED's contained 10 mortar rounds each. An EOD team destroyed all of the devices.
No Afghan civilians were harmed in these operations.
