CAMP SCHWAB — The Marines of Marine Air Support Squadron 2, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, held medium and heavy machine gun familiarization training recently at Range 10 on Camp Schwab.

About 50 Marines from the Headquarters and Services Company, MASS-2, hit the classroom for instruction on the proper handling of the M240B medium machine gun and a heavy machine gun, according to MASS-2 leaders.

The instruction included parts and components as well as troubleshooting weapon malfunctions.

The intent for this training was to equip the Marines "with the basic skills they may be called upon to use in a combat environment," said 1st Lt. Joel Reynolds, MASS-2's S-4 supply officer.

These are "vital skills that every Marine should have," Reynolds said.

The Marines fired more then 10,000 rounds of ammunition during the daylong training.

This training better prepared the Marines and gave them the confidence to know they are ready to take up the fight if called upon, according to MASS-2 leaders.

"Al-Qaida never takes a day off, so neither can we," said 1st Lt. Adam Larsen, the range safety officer for the training.
