Three children killed, one wounded by bomb in Oruzgan province
BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan — Three young children were killed and another was wounded when an insurgent emplaced bomb exploded near Sangar, Oct. 30. The wounded child was evacuated by coalition force soldiers to a hospital in Tarin Kowt to receive further medical attention.
The four young boys, between the ages of 10 and 12, found the bomb when they were playing. One of the boys picked up the bomb, placed there by insurgents and initiated the explosion.
"The Afghan national police were investigating this incident to ensure it doesn't happen again," remarked an Army captain on site.
"Insurgents leave unexploded ordinances lying around without regard to innocent children or civilians who may be injured by them," exclaimed the wounded childs' father. "Because of this, it is very important to instruct our children not to touch or even approach anything that appears suspicious. This is a tragedy that could have been prevented."
The status of the wounded child is currently unknown. The ANP will continue to patrol Sangar and the surrounding villages to eliminate roadside bombs and those who place them.
