    Militants Detained, Killed

KABUL, Afghanistan —Joint Afghan and international security forces detained several suspected militants in three separate operations today, after searching compounds in Wardak and Helmand provinces, known to be used by a Taliban facilitator and Taliban elements.

Joint security forces searched a compound near the rural village of Chahardehi, north of Ghazni City in Wardak province after intelligence reports indicated militant activity. The force killed enemy militants when they ignored the force's instruction to comply and demonstrated hostile intent. The force then completed its search of the compound and identified one of the killed enemy militants as the Taliban facilitator responsible for financial support of militant attacks and dissemination of anti-government media in the region.

In another operation in Wardak province, the joint security force searched compounds near the village of Mohabbat Kheyl and detained one suspected militant member of a Taliban element responsible for financing, supplying and conducting numerous improvised explosive device attacks and small arms attacks against Afghan civilians and infrastructure in the region.

In Helmand province, a joint security force searched a compound near the village of Ali Khafali, north of Lashkar Gah District and detained two suspected militants.

No Afghan civilians were harmed during the three separate operations.

    ISAF Casualties

In the operational update sent Sept. 25, "Afghan-International Security Force Detains Militants in Khowst; ISAF Members Killed in Southern Afghanistan," the account of one ISAF service member who died of wounds was misreported.

Four U.S. service members died in two separate events in southern Afghanistan, and one interpreter working with ISAF forces died of wounds from an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan.

No service members were killed over the past 24-hours.

Afghan and international security forces consistently combine their experience, skills and resources to eliminate the Taliban threat of fear and to ensure the safety and well-being of all Afghan people.

ISAF is a key component of the international community's engagement in Afghanistan, assisting the Afghan authorities in providing security and stability and creating the conditions for reconstruction and development.
