MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho — More than 300 members from the 366th Fighter Wing hugged loved ones goodbye and boarded planes in the early morning hours of Aug. 17 to deploy in support of the Global War on Terror.

The Airmen — including aircraft maintainers and aircrews from the 389th Fighter Squadron "Thunderbolts" - will deploy for approximately five months as part of a scheduled rotational deployment to Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea.

The deploying F-15E Strike Eagles will replace the combat capability provided by departing F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 13th FS, 35th FW, Misawa Air Base, Japan, that were deployed to Suwon Air Base in Korea.

The deployed Gunfighters will work alongside ROK-U.S. alliance partners to maintain peace and stability in the region.

"You were chosen because of the proud tradition of the Gunfighters," said Col. James McGovern, 366th Operations Group commander, to the Airmen before they boarded their planes. "I have no doubt that you will uphold that tradition and continue the legacy of the Gunfighters."
