KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Hundreds of women from Kunar province held a conference near the city of Asadabad, Aug. 12 to support women choosing to participate in the upcoming elections. Shah Jahan Sardari, chief of the Independent Election Commission, expressed the important role of women as they make up half of the Afghan population.
"Both women and man have equal right to vote," said Sadari.
Provincial Governor Hajji Sayed Fazlillah Wahidi urged the women gathering to take the opportunity and perform their duty of voting during the upcoming elections.
"Male and female of the province should take part in the election and they should work shoulder to shoulder with their brothers to elect the future president of the country who can take care of their rights," he said.
Tauraj, a female member of the provincial council, spoke on the behalf of the women and she confidently said that the women of Kunar will bravely cast their vote to make a brighter future for the country.
"They will definitely vote to support a legitimate government as we had in the past," she said.
