FORWARD OPERATING BASE RUSTAMIYAH, Iraq – Starting a job in unfamiliar surroundings is not always easy, but one newly assigned Soldier who works for an Army engineer company seems to be settling in nicely.

Sgt. Rashid Jones is serving as a signal support systems operator assigned to Company E, 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, attached to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light) as part of Multi-National Division – Baghdad. The Cassatt, S.C. native seems right at home as he conducts his duties maintaining and facilitating operational readiness of the company's communication equipment.

"If we have a problem with our radios or computers, Sgt. Jones is there to fix the problem every time," stated 1st Lt. Gary Cutler, Co. E executive officer.

Cutler said Co. E deployed to Baghdad in March without a communications sergeant. They had a brand new Soldier fill in for a while, but then Jones arrived to take responsibility of communications sergeant for the company, explained Cutler. Jones has been especially helpful in working on communications equipment in route-clearance vehicles, continued Cutler.

Jones joined Co. E in April. He brought with him two years of communications experience and immediately improved the company's overall operational readiness when he developed a well-devised communications standard operating procedure, explained Cutler.

Having been a part of the battalion for more than two years, Jones has deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has served as a signal support systems operator for both Co. A and Co. E. and has even performed duties as the battalion communications non-commissioned officer in charge.

"He has fit in nicely in his role in Easy Company," explained Capt. Casey Connors, company commander for Co. E. "We are glad to have him on our team."
