    FORWARD OPERATING BASE FALCON, Iraq – Multi-National Division- Baghdad Soldiers killed four criminals, detained two others and found several weapons caches in Baghdad's Rashid District, June 22 - 24.

    Soldiers from 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, engaged four criminals after receiving fire from a drive-by shooting in the Aamel neighborhood at approximately 9:30 p.m. June 22. The patrol returned fire at the vehicle.

    About 10:30 p.m. a patrol from the 5th Brigade, 2nd Iraqi National Police Division, partnered with MND-B Soldiers found the same vehicle in another neighborhood. They took the suspects into custody and evacuated the four wounded criminals to a local hospital. They also recovered a pistol used in the attack.

    Responding to a tip, policemen also from 5th Brigade, 2nd Iraqi National Police Division partnered with Soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division found a large cache in an abandoned house in the Risalah area at 6:30 p.m. June 22.

    The police patrol moved the cache to a combat outpost where an explosive ordnance disposal unit handled the cache, June 23.

    The cache consisted of 500 kilograms of TNT, 19 bags of C-4 plastic explosives, more than 80 rocket propelled grenade rounds with six RPG launchers, nine 60 mm mortar rounds, 82 mm mortar rounds, more than a dozen 120 mm mortar rounds, Katusha rockets, AK-47 assault rifles, SKS assault rifles, two sniper rifles, a couple machine guns, roadside bombs, a hand grenade and more than 40 explosive charges.

    Soldiers from 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., detained a suspected criminal at approximately 7 p.m. June 23 in his home in the Hadar community.

    The patrol moved the suspect to a combat outpost for questioning and processing.

    A Sons of Iraq member turned in two RPG launchers and an undisclosed quantity of 7.62 mm rounds to MND-B Soldiers at a combat outpost in the Aamel neighborhood at approximately 11:45 p.m. June 23.

    Responding to a tip, MND-B Soldiers conducted an operation and detained 14 suspected criminals at approximately 7 p.m. June 23 in the Jihad market area.

    The patrol returned to a combat outpost about 9 p.m. with the suspects for questioning. At approximately, 1 a.m. June 24 one suspect was processed while the others were released.

    "The Iraqi security forces in our area have made significant improvements since my last tour in 2006," said Col. Ted Martin, the 1st Brigade Combat Team commander. "The ISF in our area is well-led and ready to assume the lead in parts of our (sector) to provide a safe and secure environment for the Iraqi people."
