    Ceremony opens a new road and a school for 1,200 children

    KABUL, Afghanistan - Qala-e-Naw Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) soldiers inaugurated a school in Gharghaitu village recently as well as a new road that links the village to Qala-e-Naw, Badghis Province, Feb. 6.

    The new school will educate 1,200 local Afghan boys and girls.

    An inaugural ceremony to celebrate the opening of the school and road was presided by the Col. Honorio Cantero López de Davalillo, PRT Commander, Mohammed Ashraf Nasseri, Badghis Provincial Governor, along with the Coordinator of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI), the President of the Provincial Council, the Deputy Governor and the Head of the Education line department among other authorities and local inhabitants.

    During the official function, the Badghis Governor thanked the Spanish-led PRT for its contribution to the improvement of education and infrastructure in the province through the implementation of such projects. He encouraged those present to send their children to the newly-opened school and to help them in their education to carve out a better future for them and for their country.

    By opening these projects, the Qala-e-Naw PRT, through Regional Command West, promotes the development in Afghanistan. The PRT's main task is to support the authorities of the Government of Afghanistan in Badghis Province to reach a stable and secure environment that strengthens the governance and makes the reconstruction and development easier.
