BAGHDAD –The 325th Combat Support Hospital, a unit from Kansas City, Mo., were honored with eight Soldiers chosen to participate in the first re-enlistment ceremony of 2008 at Camp Victory's Al Faw Palace, Jan. 18, as a part of the U.S. Army Reserve centennial celebration.

Sgt. 1st Class Richard Otero, Staff Sgt. Matthew Godin, Staff Sgt. Terrence Wells, Sgt. Charles Edwards, Sgt. Jonah Wood, Spc. Stefan Harasymiw and Spc. Brian Messer were among the one hundred Soldiers selected to receive their oath from Multi-National Forces-Iraq commander, Gen. David Petraeus.

Petraeus also delivered the keynote address which spoke to the current state of the Army Reserve and its role in the overall military mission.

"The Reservist's unique combination of both warrior and civilian skills is particularly effective in the exceedingly complex environments we face today," he said. "Citizen-soldiers perform diverse roles expertly, and in so doing, they demonstrate the critical role members of the Army Reserve play in safeguarding freedom at home and defending it abroad."

Petraeus felt proud to participate in such an event to re-enlist the top reservists in theater.

"Indeed, I cannot think of a better way to honor the Army Reserve's first century of service than being part of a ceremony where so many great reservists raise their right hands and commit themselves to continue serving our nation," said Petraeus.

Edwards expressed gratitude and excitement about the opportunity to hear Petraeus' words.

"This is something that will be in my mind for the rest of my life. It's one of my proudest memories of being in the military," said Edwards.

Godin spoke to his decision to re-enlist, "I enjoy serving my country. I had the opportunity to continue my service and I took it. I think that the Army is a great association to be a part of."

Messer echoed Godin sentiments adding the influence of his comrades on his choice to continue his service.

"[The Army] changed my life for the better," said Messer. "I re-enlisted for everyone I served with. It was an honor to be a part of."
