Nearly 100 local community members gather to celebrate James Herring, a retired U.S. Air Force chief master sergeant and WWII veteran, 100th birthday at Westside Baptist Church, Valdosta, Georgia, April 28, 2024. At the age of 17, Herring enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In 1947, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and eight months later, the U.S. Air Force was formed.
