That time is long gone . 02:50.449 --> 02:52.449 Now , migrants seeking to illegally 02:52.449 --> 02:54.338 enter the United States must hand 02:54.338 --> 02:56.060 themselves over to a smuggling 02:56.060 --> 02:58.229 organization . They face financial and 02:58.240 --> 03:01.130 physical extortion , they face violence 03:01.139 --> 03:04.309 and sexual abuse . They can be killed , 03:04.979 --> 03:07.201 they can make it across the border only 03:07.201 --> 03:09.312 to be left behind at the mercy of the 03:09.312 --> 03:11.423 environment . They can make it across 03:11.423 --> 03:13.201 only to be forced into labor or 03:13.201 --> 03:15.490 trafficking by transnational criminal 03:15.500 --> 03:17.722 organizations that will not let them go 03:18.729 --> 03:20.840 make no mistake . While the US border 03:20.840 --> 03:22.840 patrol values the lives of each and 03:22.840 --> 03:24.951 every person we encounter . Smuggling 03:24.951 --> 03:27.490 organizations do not . Money is their 03:27.500 --> 03:30.139 motivation . The loss of life means 03:30.149 --> 03:33.229 nothing to them while some migrants are 03:33.240 --> 03:35.184 abandoned , others are dropped off 03:35.184 --> 03:37.407 right at the border . Many of these are 03:37.407 --> 03:39.899 give up groups , but in either case and 03:39.910 --> 03:42.309 especially in rugged western Arizona , 03:42.570 --> 03:44.126 there is nothing around but 03:44.126 --> 03:46.570 inhospitable desert and mountain , no 03:46.580 --> 03:50.070 shade , no water . While our dedicated 03:50.080 --> 03:52.191 agents do all they can to reach these 03:52.191 --> 03:55.300 people quickly . Many of them families 03:55.889 --> 03:58.830 may wait for hours in 110 degree plus 03:58.839 --> 04:01.100 summer heat because they have crossed 04:01.110 --> 04:04.270 into a remote desolate area . The truth is the 05:00.709 --> 05:02.959 United States enforces its immigration 05:02.970 --> 05:05.450 laws and our borders are not open to 05:05.459 --> 05:07.626 anyone who does not have a legal basis 05:07.626 --> 05:10.320 to enter our country . Furthermore , if 05:10.329 --> 05:12.107 you fail to use the many lawful 05:12.107 --> 05:13.996 pathways we have for entering and 05:13.996 --> 05:16.051 remaining in the United States , you 05:16.051 --> 05:18.329 will be presumed ineligible for asylum . 05:19.109 --> 05:21.380 You may be subject to prompt removal . 05:21.750 --> 05:24.380 A five year ban on re entry .
