The process of making and shipping biochar at the West Biofuels bioenergy facility in Burney, CA. Biochar is a a byproduct of the bioenergy facility – a blackish type of mulch- that is then saved and sold to farmers for soil improvement, a type of fertilizer and moisture and nutrient retainer. The added benefit of biochar is that it helps build up soil carbon. (Forest Service video by Andrew Avitt)
