World War II ended in Europe in 1945 and by 1960, the Defense Communications Agency had been created to streamline long haul military communications. Initially, the DCA-Europe hub was situated at Dreux AB, France and soon moved to cover the entire region as well as Turkey, Spain and England. By 1967, they settled at Patch Barracks, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Federal Republic of Germany.
Over the years, DCA-Europe provided joint service secure and reliable communications to all of Europe and expanded to include USCENTCOM in 1984. By 1991, The DCA assumed a combat support role and, along with the agency, DCA-Europe became DISA-Europe. By 2009, DISA-Europe added USAFRICOM to their area of responsibility and continue today to provide the critical infrastructure to support warfighters around the world.
