U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment and Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, conduct a noncombatant evacuation operation exercise on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 18, 2025. A NEO is an evacuation of civilians and nonessential military personnel from volatile situations overseas to designated safe havens. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
