Joint Force Headquarters - West Virginia National Guard

On behalf of Maj. Gen. Jim Seward:
"In the wake of the brutal shooting of SSgt Andrew Wolfe and SPC Sarah Beckstrom, Governor Morrisey and I have been in the District of Columbia to lend support to their families and our West Virginia National Guardsmen still on duty safeguarding the citizens of the District.

We are overwhelmed at the outpouring of support from the President, senior government and military officials, National Guardsmen from other states, communities in West Virginia, and private citizens throughout America.

I ask for your continued prayers for SSgt Wolfe as he remains in critical condition at a local hospital. Please continue to pray for both SPC Beckstrom and SSgt Wolfe’s families in this incredibly difficult time. Both of these Guardsmen have served with honor and distinction. They represent the very best of America. In the wake of SPC Beckstrom’s passing, we’ve learned so much about this amazing young person. She was a prom queen, honor graduate, caregiver, Soldier, friend to many, and cherished loved one to her family. She is greatly missed by her fellow Soldiers and all who knew her. My final prayer request is for the safety and wellbeing of our Guardsmen as they continue to perform their duties in exemplary fashion whether deployed overseas, on the Southwest border of the United States, or in America’s cities.

The West Virginia National Guard stands always ready to defend our nation and to support our communities during crisis. When our citizens are in need, we will always be there. Thank you and may God bless you all."
