U.S. Marines with Task Force Sapper close gaps in the southern border barrier near Imperial Beach, Calif., June 7, 2025. Task Force Sapper, comprised of 500 Marines and Sailors from I Marine Expeditionary Force, is tasked with engineering support to Joint Task Force–Southern Border with the emplacement of signs and obstacles along the southern border barrier to deter illegal crossings. Joint Task Force–Southern Border executes full-scale, agile, and all-domain operations in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to protect the territorial integrity of the United States and achieve 100% operational control of the southern border.
