Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory, May 25, 2025 - Civilians and service members on Naval Support Facility (NSF), Diego Garcia, participated in a seven mile memorial run/walk to honor the 72,000 to 78,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war (POWs) who were forcibly transferred by the Imperial Japanese Army from the municipalities of Bagac and Mariveles on the Bataan Peninsula to Camp O'Donnell via San Fernando. NSF Diego Garcia's mission is to provide critical support to U.S. and allied forces forward deployed to the Indian Ocean, while supporting multi-theater forces operating in the CENTCOM, AFRICOM, EUCOM, and PACOM areas of responsibilities in support of overseas contingency operations.
