Soldiers with the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Tomb of the Unknown Soldier conduct Changing of the Guard and place flags in front of the Tomb as part of "Flags-In" at Alington National Cemetery, Arlington Va., May 23 2025. As the Army’s official ceremonial unit and the oldest active-duty infantry regiment, The Old Guard is in charged with placing American flags in front of more than 260,000 headstones and at the bottom of about 7,000 columbarium niche rows. Each flag is inserted into the ground, exactly one boot length from the headstone’s base.
