Nebraska Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Michael Brown, 67th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, shares why he chose to volunteer for state active duty to support local law enforcement, May 3, 2024, at a traffic control point in the Woodlands Crossing neighborhood of Bennington, Nebraska. Eighty-two Nebraska National Guard Soldiers and Airmen, and the Nebraska State Patrol, are supporting the Douglas County Sherrif’s Office and Omaha Police Department with multiple traffic control points in four local neighborhoods from Elkhorn to Bennington, Nebraska. The Soldiers and Airmen volunteered for state active duty to integrate with local law enforcement at designated areas in Douglas County that were significantly impacted by the Arbor Day tornadoes on April 26, 2024. The Soldiers and Airmen are working in rotating shifts providing controlled vehicle access and conducting roving patrols to ensure the safety and well-being of all within the affected areas.
