Shawn VanMeter, an aircraft structural maintenance specialist with the 121st Air Refueling Wing Maintenance Squadron, hand makes a replacement part for a KC-135 Stratotanker that was found to be struck by lightning during an isochronal inspection at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, Columbus, Ohio, August 9, 2023. Aircraft structural maintainers do everything from installing replacement parts to building a replacement from scratch to restore the structural integrity of the aircraft and ensure the success of nuclear deterrence and rapid global mobility.
