USACE, Sen. Bill DeSteph and Broad Bay Civic League leadership boarded survey vessels in order to review depths of previously constructed artificial reed site and to survey potential site for an additional reef. The reef constructions are part of the Lynnhaven River Basin Ecosystem Restoration project and their importance is to bolster and foster continued water quality improvement in the Chesapeake Bay area. Other project initiatives such as submerged aquatic vegetation planting and wetland restoration work synergistically with reef construction to improve wildlife biodiversity and abundance.
