The Port of Charleston is the third largest port on the East Coast, and thanks to the Post 45 Harbor Deepening Project, overseen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, is now the deepest on the East Coast at 52 feet. The Charleston Harbor Post 45 Deepening Project addresses transportation inefficiencies by deepening and widening Charleston Harbor to allow for growth in the shipping industry with the influx of Post-Panamax ships calling on port in the Lowcountry. The project will provide over $169 M in average annual benefits.
