The Florida Army National Guard coordinates and begins airlifting vehicles and additional assets onto Pine Island and Sanibel Island Florida in the wake of Hurricane Ian to assist their fellow Floridians in recovery efforts Oct. 3, 2022. Airlifting is the most effective means to access the islands due to the destruction and impassable conditions of bridges that connected to the main land.
