In recognition of American Indian Heritage Month, the Team Hill Special Observance Council visited with Rios Pacheco, cultural advisor for the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone, to learn about the history and culture of the tribe. The Northwestern Band of the Shoshone tribe once inhabited the area where Hill Air Force Base is located and maintain strong cultural ties to the area. The tribe lived and traveled in small family groups in northern Utah, southern Idaho and a section of Nevada. Pacheco describes how the Shoshone lived and adapted to the migration of people to the area, the Bear River Massacre, and how they live today. Hill Air Force Base consults with 20 additional federally recognized tribes who have ancestral ties with Hill AFB managed lands. (U.S. Air Force video by R. Nial Bradshaw)
